The Magnolia Summer 2026 opens with a look at the role of John Baxton Flowers III as one of the founders of the Southern Garden History Society. Also discussed is the central part he played as director of Durham’s Stagville Preservation Center in working with Old Salem and Reynolda Gardens to present the Restoring Southern Gardens and Landscapes Conference. As well, readers will be deeply touched by Greg Grant’s article memorializing Bill Welch. Joining Greg’s remembrances are tributes from his long-time friends Jeff Abt, Staci Catron, Susan Haltom, Dean Norton, and Chris Wiesinger. Also featured is a letter from President Susan Epstein in which she highlights “A Year of Progress” and offers a “Look Ahead.” Accompanied her letter are the results from the recent membership survey.
