Fall-Winter 2024 Magnolia (Vol. XXXVI, No. 1)

Board member Jessica Russell begins this issue with a spirited look (with amazing images) at the night-blooming cereus, as it was enjoyed and embraced by famed Mississippi author Eudora Welty and her many friends. Randy Harelson and Ken McFarland, in turn, open an ongoing series of articles that will help celebrate the 250th anniversary of William Bartram’s travels through the lower South. Readers will enjoy the return of Peter Hatch to our pages in his “in-print” overview of Virginia cider-maker Diane Flynt’s new book on apples in the South. Finally, thanks go out to Gareth Evans and Leslie Randle-Morton for an examination in words and excellent photos of Wilmington, NC’s Bellamy Mansion Museum, a site featured in the upcoming annual meeting.
