The 1990s, in retrospect, can be considered the golden age of the “Restoring Southern Gardens and Landscapes” (RSGL) series of biennial conferences that were held at Old Salem Museums and Gardens in Winston-Salem, NC. This issue of Magnolia continues with featured articles, begun in 2021, recounting the history of RSGL by reviewing three of the five events during this significant decade. Ken McFarland concludes with a dedication to our late past president Randy Harelson, “who greatly admired the Old Salem conferences, was highly dismayed when the series ended, and fervently wished for their return.”
This Magnolia also continues our “Gardens” series profiling significant historic gardens throughout the South, including Reynolda Gardens in Winston-Salem, NC; Longue Vue Gardens in New Orleans, LA; and our return to Bellingrath Gardens & Home, in Mobile, AL, the site of the 2025 annual meeting. Finally, this issue gives an update of the Randy Harelson Scholarship fund, which has exceeded the initial goal of $60,000.
