Grappling with the hot, sultry days of summer leads many Southerners to find respite lying beneath a ceiling fan on a screened porch, swimming in a pool, lake, or ocean (whichever is available), and seeking out the best vegetables and fruit in their gardens or at local farmer’s markets.
